Her love of momma's milk developed into a love of rice cereal, which turned into a love of bananas and avocados, which evolved into a love of all pureed fruits and veggies we were willing to give her, as well as prime rib and turkey bones! She's a very enthusiastic eater, but has always been a very tidy one. I joked with my my hubby that it was because she loved her food so much that she didn't want to waist a morsel! She was such a clean eater, I never would even put a bib on her because it just wasn't necessary.
When other mom's would and say how fun but "messy" introducing solids was, I would politely (smugly) tell them that Growly Bear was really neat and tidy, and didn't make a mess at all. I think they didn't really believe me, but it was the truth!
Well, recently, that's all changed. She's discovered that her hands can grab, and mash, and smear, and throw, and she's having lots of fun figuring out how to move food from her tray to her mouth. Her favorite new trick is opening her mouth so that it looks like she's going to eat the spoonful of food I'm offering her, but at the last second, she grabs the spoon and catapults the food everywhere! She thinks it's hilarious! The dogs think it's awesome. I think it's sticky! NOW I understand what all those moms meant about solids being "messy"!
It's not quite so bad when she's tossing food around our own house, but yesterday we went out for lunch with some of Growly Bears Auntie's. We were enjoying a nice lunch quietly at a table in the corner. I'd brought apple sauce and cottage cheese (her newest food introduction) for her lunch. She ate her apple sauce happily, and wasn't really impressed with the cottage cheese. After a couple bites, she decided she was done, so I put it on the table just out of her reach, or so I thought. A couple minutes later, the girls and I were deep in conversation, and next thing I know, Growly Bear has grabbed her cottage cheese tossed it over her shoulder, sending it flying across the restaurant, sending a cheese shower along it's path. Luckily most people who witnessed it thought it was entertaining, but needless to say, l felt more then a little uncomfortable with all eyes were on me as I was wiping it up off the floor!
In our own home, when we don't have an audience, (and when we have dogs to "clean" the floor) I must admit, it IS kinda cute. So, for your viewing pleasure:
